The second
painting in a series of “Chakra” paintings, this painting celebrates the
benefits of practicing yoga. In addition to the sheer beauty of the
many individual yoga poses, it is also meant to celebrate the joy of a
strong, healthy, pain free body that yoga can help to attain.
Multiple
colors represent what eastern philosophy refers to as the “chakras”,
with each color representing a different chakra, or “energy center”.
The chakras have very complex definitions, but basically refer to (from
head to toe) 1) violet - connection to the divine, 2) indigo -
intuition, 3) blue - speech and self expression 4) green - love,
compassion and healing, 5) yellow - mental functioning – power, control,
freedom, 6) orange - emotion, creativity, sexuality, and 7) red -
instinct, survival and security.
Parallels have been drawn, although not substantiated, between the
positions and functions of the chakras, to the organs of the endocrine
system (pineal, pituitary, thyroid, thymus, pancreas, gonads, and
adrenal glands).
