Each piece is hand made and one-of-a-kind. Special glass is used, designed for fine art and kiln work, such as dichroic, iridescent or textured. Pieces of these glass are selected and hand cut into various shapes, composed into a design, and then fired in a kiln. The glass can be "fully fired", meaning each of the pieces are melted to the degree that they form one large, smooth piece, or it can be partially fired, leaving texture in the piece. I prefer to partially fire (tack fuse) my work, as I enjoy the different textures and dimension that results from a partial firing. Since
each piece is hand made, variations and imperfections are inherent in
the process and considered part of the value of the piece. If you
choose to purchase a piece, please remember that they are made from glass
and are easily breakable. Treat each piece as you would treat any piece
of fine art glass. |
